Acupuncture Therapy

Acupuncture is a technique utilizing fine sterile disposable stainless steel needles inserted at specific points in the body to cause a positive response in order to correct various ailments and to normalize the body's physiological processes. The location of the application of the needles and the depth of their insertion is determined by the nature of the problem.

The ancient Chinese believed that there is a universal life energy called Qi present in every living creature. This energy is said to circulate throughout the body along specific pathways called meridians. As long as this energy flows freely throughout the meridians, health is maintained, but once the flow of energy is blocked, the system is disrupted and pain and illness occur.

Acupuncture
The first visit is the most important as it is when our Acupuncturist gets to sit down with you and not only find out why you are coming to see her, but to go through a detailed medical history; review of systems, nutrition and diet, sleep patterns, exercise, present medications, etc. This process is very thorough. In Chinese Medicine, we are trying to paint a picture of the whole person to better determine what systems are out of balance.
Cupping
Cupping utilizes round glass or plastic cups over a large muscular area such as the back to enhance blood circulation and draw toxins out of the body.
Auricular Acupuncture
Auricular acupuncture is widely used for many conditions, including addiction treatment, mood disorders, obesity, pain, and other conditions. This medical system emphasizes a holistic approach to medicine, an approach that treats the whole person. The acupuncture points found on the ear help to regulate the body's internal organs, structures, and functions. Auricular therapy has been shown to stimulate the release of endorphins, the body's own feel-good chemicals.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a Japanese form of massage therapy quite similar to acupressure; in fact, the word shiatsu literally means "finger pressure." As with acupressure, the concepts of shiatsu hold that it can promote health and facilitate healing by correcting energy imbalances in the body. These imbalances are corrected by applying pressure to specific points along channels in the body known as meridians.
Tuina
Tuina is a form of Oriental bodywork that has been used in China for centuries. A combination of massage, acupressure and other forms of body manipulation, tuina works by applying pressure to acupoints, meridians and groups of muscles or nerves to remove blockages that prevent the free flow of qi. Removing these blockages restores the balance of qi in the body, leading to improved health and vitality.
Gua Sha
Gua Sha involves palpation and cutaneous stimulation where the skin is pressured, in strokes, by a round-edged instrument. Gua Sha removes blood stagnation considered pathogenic, promoting normal circulation and metabolic processes. Gua Sha is valuable in the prevention and treatment of acute infectious illness, upper respiratory and digestive problems, and many other acute and chronic disorders.

Initial Acupuncture Treatment

75 Minutes/$125

The first visit is the most important as it is when our Acupuncture Therapist, Dr. Jenna, gets to sit down with you and not only find out why you are coming to see her, but to go through a detailed medical history; review of systems, nutrition and diet, sleep patterns, exercise, present medications, etc. This process is very thorough. In Chinese Medicine, we are trying to paint a picture of the whole person to better determine what systems are out of balance. The idea is that we are not treating symptoms, but actually trying, through thorough investigation, to determine the cause, or “root” of the problem.

The beauty of Chinese Medicine, and the thing that makes it so effective, is that every person gets an individualized treatment plan designed specifically for them from all the information gathered in the initial session. For example, 2 people may seek out acupuncture for headaches, but will each be treated completely differently depending on all the other factors that are contributing to their headaches. This is the strength of TCM and why it is so effective. Treatment is not for a headache, it is for "your" headache.

Subsequent Treatments

60 Minutes/$90

Upon completion of your initial consultation and treatment, subsequent treatments are usually an hour depending on the complexity of the case. How many treatments required to resolve the issue depends on many factors, but the more information Dr. Jenna gathers, the better and more effective treatment plan she can design for any given ailment.

Each subsequent treatment begins with the two of you talking and determining how the treatments are working and then she'll ask more questions so that she can tweak treatments as necessary. Detailed notes are taken at every session so that Dr. Jenna can review the notes which help her with the research she does in between treatments.

We encourage questions, and Dr. Jenna always does her very best to explain the diagnosis, the treatment principal and ways in which that patient can adjust their lifestyle to remain balanced in the present and the future.
